Walking

There are many spectacular routes of various degrees of difficulty.

Transpennine Trail – passing close to Broomedge Farm Cottages, this is an exciting route for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders that links the east and west coasts of England. You can dip a toe in the Irish Sea at Southport at one end, and paddle in the North Sea at Hornsea at the other! The trail is a combination of modern routes, disused railways and ancient salt routes, and you will be following in the footsteps of packhorse traders and the wheeltracks of steam trains.

There are countless low-land walks across the Cheshire Plain, through attractive countryside where you’ll see many more animals than people during your walk! We have OS maps that you can borrow, and some leaflets with suggestions.

The Gritstone and Sandstone Trails in Cheshire are longer walks, offering spectacular views. You can easily choose just a part of them to make a good day walk.

The Peak District is just over 20 miles away, with a host of good walks.

Cycling

The backroads of Cheshire are great for cycling. They're generally quiet, and the gradients are manageable. Offroad cycling is catered for, too, and there are some purpose-built trails, such as Delamere Forest. Click here for information from the Sustrans website.
