By keeping as many of the original features as possible, the cottages have been given a lovely feel – in particular, the original roof height has been kept, giving a wonderful feeling of space and light.
The names reflect the original use – ‘The Dairy Cottage’ speaks for itself, but ‘The Shippon Cottage’ is a name that many people may not be familiar with – ‘shippon’ is in fact an Old English word for a barn or cowshed.
The Duckpond (click to enlarge)There is plenty of secure offroad parking on a good dry surface (2 large spaces per cottage) close to the cottages. A lovely feature is the duckpond outside the cottages. This has been securely fenced to make it safe for children, who will enjoy watching the ducks swimming and feeding in the pond. There is a patio with picnic tables, giving tremendous views across to Rivington Pike and Winter Hill.
